Cad developments helped refine functional details such as how the legs might attach to the body, or how the mechanism to make the basket swing aroung could work. The models were turned in to drawings to present to a product engineer for analysis. Further changes were needed such as more strength for the swinging draw basket.

The island surface
Posted by damonstenhouse on June 3, 2009
a good thing about the draw is that the to surface can be open to expression. All I need is the surface to be as clean as possible and incorporating the bin into the post.

Swivelling and retracting drawer…
Posted by damonstenhouse on June 3, 2009
I found that a draw under the table is the most logical way to avoid messing with the top of the bench surface. Looking through some catalogs and thinking back to a potential user telling me that the carrousel in the corner is “the best thing in the kitchen!” I thought of putting the basket underneath on a swing around the post. The great thing is this also solves the problem of the slide out causing an obstruction when circumnavigating around the table. (I also like to work with the draws open). The basket can wrap around the post a little to increase its capacity.
